At first I was confused as to why this was titled awakening. But, then I realized that Darcy was awakening from a stupor that he had exited in since his parents died. My first level of horror was his connection [secret though it was] with Caroline Bingley. Holy Crap… how on earth did that happen? Well, I have to say the author pulled it off and explained it very well. Not that I liked it, but I did understand. Wonder what Lady C will have to say about that? I won’t tell.“We awaken in others the same attitude of mind we hold toward them.” Elbert Hubbard
Caroline was the epitome of what society expected in a wife. She was beautiful, socially adept, status conscious, exhibited fashion awareness, expressed thoughts and opinions that society approved, was accomplished in all the areas society found to admire in a female, had a respectable dowry, and was his best friend’s sister. She reflected well on him and the fact there was no love between them did not factor into the equation as that was not fashionable in Darcy’s circle of society. So, why not marry her? He had to marry someday… he needed an heir.

Yeah, when Caroline is compared to the ebullient Elizabeth Bennet… there was no contest. Suddenly a side to Caroline was exposed that did not reflect well on her. Perhaps it was jealously rearing up its ugly hear. The surprise at the end was shocking. I thought it might happen, by the clues the author began to drop. However, I didn’t expect it to unfold the way it did. OMG!! Caroline, you self-serving, b-witch.
This clean story was a quick read. It moved quickly through the story-line. So be prepared for the accelerated pace. I was a bit distressed with how our dear Colonel was treated. No… I didn’t like that part one bit. However, the epilogue saved my angst regarding him and I suspect there is another story for him. Oh, yes, I do love a good Colonel story.

I enjoyed this variation on canon. It didn't have as much depth or breadth as one might hope, but it was well-written and the plot was fairly intriguing.
This inventive story could have been so much more if written by a better writer. Seemed plodding and language was very stilted.
What a great story. I followed it on FanFiction, so I knew It would be a treat. Darcy has used his mind to pick a wife, and he thought Caroline Bingley was perfect, she was elegant, and attractive, plus was an heiress and sister to his best friend, Charles! Doesn't that make sense? Now the group, Charles, the ever annoying Hursts, Caroline, and our Hero, Mr. Darcy, end up at Netherfield, and attend a little country assembly, and Darcy spies our Heroine, Lizzie Bennet who he can't get out of his mind it seems! If course, Charles has spotted Jane Bennet so things proceed from there, with the added touch of ugh! The unannounced Engagement of Darcy and Caroline. You have to read it to enjoy the tale and it's worth it! Great Read!
I enjoyed reading it, but a lot was a repeat of the original except the beginning.
I can't really like Caroline being happy but Darcy taken in by her is so believable. New plot twists and a HEA to die for.
When I read the premise that Darcy was engaged to Caroline, I was surprised, wondering how that happened! And as I read I just couldn't see a way out for Darcy. That author certainly entertained me with that relationship, though Caroline's actions were a little out of character for me. The rest of the story was entertaining. I was surprised however that Darcy and Caroline were alone in a carriage on the way to London, I suspect neither Charles not Caroline would have wanted that scandal, engaged out not!
This turns out to be a very good story but the beginning had me worried. Darcy betrothed to Caroline? The horrors. Are the shades of Pemberley to be polluted? Fortunately there's a minimum of interaction with her character and we have more of Lizzie and Darcy, along with the beloved characters. The fact that writers can create more despicable acts for Wickham always amazed me and in this case he has really sunk. The only not so believable part is the minimum of shrieking and handkerchief waving of Mrs Bennett. She's almost tolerable! Great job!!
